Saturday: August 03, 2013 - Vacation #1/Connecticut Trip/Nate’s Wedding Woke up @ 7:30AM again. Went to hotel lobby for breakfast again. After breakfast, went back to hotel room to get ready for the day. 1st stop today was the PEZ Factory in Orange, Connecticut. It was located southeast of New Haven, Connecticut. Once again, were took the dreaded I-95 freeway to get there. The drive wasn’t as bad as it was the previous day. We made it to the PEZ Factory @ about 9:30AM. Looked like a typical modern era factory from the outside exterior. The main entranceway had 3 oversized giant PEZ Rolls! The inside had an open lobby and visitor center. The visitor center part, explained the making and history of PEZ Candy. There were many PEZ Dispensers on display. I didn’t know the candy originally came from Austria and at one point was consider an alternative for quitting smoking. The factory wasn’t accessible to Mom and I. It was open for tour groups only. After looking around the building, the gift shop had fresh PEZ Rolls and PEZ Dispensers for sale. I bought a classic remake PEZ Dispenser. The 2nd stop today was going back to The Shore-Line Trolley Museum. En-route back to East Haven, Connecticut via the I-95. Traffic was alright, but still busy. Got to Shore-Line Trolley Museum @ around 11:00AM. Unlike the other day, Mom and I rode the entire trolley loop. It was standard gauge rail with overhead electrical lines for power. The best part was going through a salt/fresh water marsh. It had a group of Osprey birds nesting in the area. After the ride, we got to tour the open car barns where the trolleys were being store. Most of the museums collection seems to be in excellent condition and some are still works in progress. Favorite trolley was seeing Toronto Transit Commission #2898. I reminded me of old Detroit Street Railway trolley. After touring the trolley barns, I manage to get many pictures and videos of equipment which was working that day. Connecticut Shoreline #755 & #1602 were both operating alongside New Orleans #850. After the museum we went back to the hotel and got ready for church. We attended the 4:30PM Mass @ St. Vince de Paul Church of East Haven, Connecticut. That evening, we went to our 3rd and final stop for the day. Mom and I attended a Connecticut Tigers baseball game. The Connecticut Tigers are 1 of 5 minor league baseball clubs that are part of the Detroit Tigers player’s farm system. The previous minor league Detroit Tigers baseball team which I saw last was the Toledo Mud-Hens. The Connecticut Tigers are located in the city of Norwich, Connecticut. Their “English C” logo is the reversed side of the Detroit Tigers “English D” logo, which is worn on the team home hats and jerseys. That night, were playing against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. MV Scrappers were associated with the Cleveland Indians. The Scrappers lead the game until Ben Verlander (Justin Verlander’s Brother) got the Connecticut Tigers ahead briefly ahead of the MV Scrappers. Then it rained, and game was suspended for the moment. Mom and I exit the ballpark after getting wet. Our favorite freeway I-95 was the way back to the hotel. Got into the hotel @ about 11:00PM. Got ready for bed and sleep…Go Tigers!...Zzz….
