Saturday Morning Light shimmers through the window to my half-cracked-open eyes I sit and stare around me like I’ve never seen this world I stretch my hand up high as if to touch the newborn sun I let silence overwhelm me, small movements full of glory I rise like clockwork, in a trance My mind is young and new I set my feet upon the floor Then slowly stand on them I take my step, still not so sure, I take it slowly So as not to break The stillness, embracing I turn and see myself in surfaces of mirror Eyes are cleaved widely, sleep has filled them with her gracve Hair is tossed and sticking out, but fresh and safely worn My face is full of wonderment at life in this new morn I walk slow and cautious to the hall, Don’t want to make my presences known Just yet My breathing is my consciousness, a soft and steady beat That sets a tone for days to come, To meet me with their light I could’ve said hello just then to others in my house But sound is hidden deep inside, Inside my lovely heart Not ready to emerge quite yet And be so bold to say A single word aloud . . . Just yet So I may experience and wonder at This new and treasured Saturday. Mollie Greenberg, 15 Yellow Springs, OH Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 09:44PM
