Saturday... No tournament today. The good news is that every plane full of kids is currently safe and sound in Barrow. We were socked in with heavy ice fog all day long here in Point Lay. So the airline was wise in not bringing the kids here today. If the planes are not able to land here tomorrow, then the states activity and athletics commission will have to make an unprecedented decision about either playing during Thanksgiving weekend, or by default who goes to state from our region without a tournament. The final decision depends on conditions tomorrow. As for us, not having the games here gave us yet another restful day, and allowed us to get a few things done like laundry today. I made some chili for supper, and we were able to watch a couple of movies, including A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and the Peanuts story about the Mayflower. They dont make kids shows like Schultzs Peanuts shows hardly anymore. So its great to have the DVDs of the timeless classics. Every time I play and watch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, I think about 2000, sitting in my parents living room, just me and that other guy named Ed (my dad, Ed Hornsby, Sr.), by ourselves, just about to roll on the floor laughing when Snoopy gets in a fight first with a ping pong table he was setting up, then with an old wooden folding lounge chair he was trying to set up for the Thanksgiving dinner of peanuts, pretzels, candy, popcorn, and buttered toast Charlie Brown and Linus put together for some uninvited guests. You cant fault Charlie Brown for trying to please Peppermint Patty, who invited herself, Marcie, and Franklin to Charlie Browns house for Thanksgiving. But thankfully things worked out for the whole gang to travel to Charlies grandmas condominium for the traditional dinner. It was good to laugh with Larissa, and relive the humor and the good story today. https://youtube/watch?v=KwkqAmLGDDE The best part of my day today was getting to sing Happy Birthday to my now 89 year-young grandma, Edith Hornsby. It was so great to hear her voice, and to speak for nearly an hour. Being 4000 miles away from her is tough. But today, it was great to catch up with her, and just cherish that time of spoken word and encouragement as if she and I were in the same room. Larissa and I love her very much. Grandma prays for us daily, and knows that God has us out here in Alaska for a purpose. Shes our biggest cheerleader and Prayer Warrior. Love you, Grandma! Happy Birthday greetings from beautiful Alaska! Well, Sunday is here. Were not sure whats going to happen. But like the scriptures say, we need to be prepared in season and out of season. Thats a great word from God to hold on to in times like this. Love and Gods richest blessings from beautiful, but foggy Alaska! Have a great Lords Day on Sunday, cherish the ones you love, and dont forget that a merry heart does good like a medicine. Dont forget to laugh and enjoy life in the Lord! :D
