Saturday afternoon model discussion from Quagmire Weather - TopicsExpress

Saturday afternoon model discussion from Quagmire Weather Central Well, the models seemed to have simmered down on showing any snow possibilities for snow later next week along the East Coast, but what has my attention now is what the models are showing from next weekend and beyond. Both the GFS and European models are showing the potential for a huge blocking pattern to set up after the 16th-17th that keeps the trough over the Eastern US, keeping the Eastern US cold. But notice also that the blocking over the Arctic region and Greenland will keep the Northern Pacific Jet Stream diving south from Canada to the Gulf Coast with a weak Sub Tropical Jet trying to get involved in the game. IF the Jets somehow merge, we could see something very significant develop around the 18th-21st time frame. This needs to be watched closely in the coming days and this could set another potential event for around Thanksgiving. The pattern is getting almost perfect for a winter storm to develop in about 8-12 days or so for the Eastern US. images courtesy of Allan Huffman, WxBell Analytics & tropicatidbits -Quags
