Saturday my one week supply of Soylent (soylent.me/) arrived, I - TopicsExpress

Saturday my one week supply of Soylent (soylent.me/) arrived, I mixed a full day supply, tasted about 4 ounces and refrigerated the rest. When I heard the initial supply had shipped I quickly started a monthly subscription to get it in the order queue. Sunday my diet was a full day of Soylent (minus the taste test from yesterday), a donut, and a slice of leftover pizza. I mixed a full day supply for Monday and left it in the blender as opposed to the Soylen pitcher. Ive noticed that even mixing the ingredients with room temperature distilled water, there is a fair amount of residue at the bottom of the glass, even when I shake the pitcher before pouring. The room temperature of the water used to mix the Monday batch was a bit warmer coming straight from the water distiller, but I don’t expect that to be of any consequence. I left the batch in the blender because I figured I would mix it right prior to consumption and see how that worked. Still, this is not a significant problem. By the way I found the flavor to be pleasingly neutral, although it did remind me a bit of peanut butter which may be a psychological manifestation based on the color and viscosity. All in all a very nice, neutral flavor for a staple food. I know the recommendation is to slowly introduce Soylent into your diet to allow your system to accept it. I decided to go the opposite route of completely changing and then backing off if I have any negative consequences. So far, so good. I did have two issues. First, headaches. I attribute this to a flash change to my sodium intake. I’ve read the blogs and realize that some people add salt to the blend to remedy this situation. I’ve probably had an excess of sodium in my diet due to processed foods, and would rather go with a week or two of sporadic headaches to adjust my body’s baseline of sodium intake. Longer than that and I’ll revisit the issue. Second, lightheadedness. I notice that when I don’t eat on a regular schedule and drink coffee all morning the caffeine makes me go through a period of lightheadedness or shakiness. This is regardless of the diet I’m on. The obvious solution is to eat on a regular basis and/or limit my caffeine intake. A Soylent diet should help with the first, and cutting back on coffee is something I should be doing anyway. I’m approaching Soylent from a life hacking point of view. Conventional time-management can only go so far, but streamlining the preparation of meals can reclaim a fair amount of time in the long-run. In addition, Soylent itself with no other sources of food is a pure Vegan diet. The only questionable item is the algae oil which replaced the fish oil in version 1.2 of the product. Even the America Vegetarian Association has certified algae oil blends although I’m sure I could find someone to debate this. My approach to reduced animal product intake is primarily health, although I see a huge upside based on my experiences with Sri Chinmoy and groups like Circle Sanctuary. At the end of the day my body seems to run better on plant based fuel. I While I don’t expect to stop eating out, I hope that Soylent will provide a convenient alternative to the drudgery of preparing meals on a daily basis. I would rather spend my time in Photoshop, or coding elegant webpages, or watching Sharknado 2 for that matter. It’s wonderful seeing the evolution of this new technology from the crowd-funding stage to where it is today and where it is heading. #SoylentPioneer
