Saturdays EAGLE (10/25) is shown in the center of this picture as part of an awesome patch design honoring the chopper pilots that flew during the Vietnam War. I could never understand how they kept their composure during a mission, when they carried the first troops in, and brought the last ones out. They were almost like sitting ducks during the brief period needed for unloading and loading personnel, and equipment. Mere seconds seemed like eternity as they hovered in a landing zone, with their only protection being the door gunners, and the soldiers on the ground. The words on the patch express their situation...,We have been where only EAGLEs dare to fly. And for them, that was the UNFRIENDLY SKIES of Vietnam. To this day, I am always mesmerized by the sound of a helicopter flying overhead, with its blades cutting through the still air, and as I watch intently, my thoughts are instantly returned to a period that was over 45 years ago. There is nothing quite like this sound and Im sure that this feeling will never go away.
