Saturdays Vanarama Conference round up. Barnet open up a 5 point lead at the top of the... ...Vanarama Conference table after a 2-0 victory at the International Stadium against Gateshead on Saturday. Two goals in the opening 7 minutes set Barnet on their way in the North-East and put them on course to record yet another win. Curtis Weston bagged the opener after 4 minutes when he drove the ball into the bottom corner for his first of the season before turning provider 3 minutes later to set us Luisma Villa to head home from close range. The Bees continued to press as the half progressed with John Akinde and Lee Cook both going close for the visitors, while Gateshead offered a brief reply before the break when Michael Rankine brought a comfortable save out of Graham Stack. Barnet applied more pressure at the start of the second half with Cook seeing a free-kick deflected over the bar and Villa being denied inside the area by Adam Bartlett. Mauro Vilhete was the next Barnet player to try his luck but after creating space for himself on the edge of the area, he blazed the ball into the stands. With 15 minutes remaining, Gateshead started to pose a bigger threat with Stack being forced into action to deny Jon Shaw and Danny Wright having an effort superbly blocked by Jack Saville. However, Barnet managed to weather the storm to strengthen their position at the summit. Goals from Lois Maynard and Richard Peniket earned second-placed FC Halifax Town a 2-0 victory against Kidderminster Harriers at The Shay. Halifax spent the opening exchanges pressing Kidderminster back into their own final third but a number of set pieces only resulted in a Marc Roberts header being saved by Daniel Lewis. Steve Williams wasted another chance for the Shaymen when prodding wide from close range, but Halifax took the lead on 34 minutes through Maynard, who fired the ball into the bottom corner for his first of the season. That advantage was doubled 5 minutes later when Peniket made the most of a defensive lapse from Kidderminster before driving the ball past goalkeeper Lewis from an acute angle. Peniket nearly put the contest out of sight after the restart but after his close-range attempt was saved. Harriers began to enjoy a better spell, with Michael Gash sending a header over the bar from eight yards. Ahmed Obeng had a shot saved by Matt Glennon and strike partner Nathan Blissett saw a header go wide of the post after he had been found by a corner, but the Shaymen kept a clean sheet. Mike Phenix twice found the net in the shock result of the day as AFC Telford United recorded only their second league victory this season away at third-placed Woking. Phenix put the Bucks ahead after 10 minutes when he headed home Sean Clancys cross. John Goddard levelled for the hosts with 34 minutes gone on the clock. But Telford restored their lead just 2 minutes after the restart when Phenix tapped home from close range. Sam Smith extended their advantage on the hour-mark and sealed a valuable three points for the visitors with a cool finish. Local lad Danny Coles sunk his former club to earn a fine 1-0 win for Forest Green Rovers against Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium. Skippering Ady Pennocks side in the absence of David Pipe, centre-back Coles notched his first goal for the club at the ground he used to call home in the 15th minute. The dismissal of Danny Leadbitter in the 58th minute aided the away teams cause, but they played the better football throughout and fully deserved West Country bragging rights. Grimsby Town have recorded a terrific 3-2 victory over in-form Torquay United at Plainmoor. Lenell John-Lewis grabbed two goals, with captain Craig Disley also getting on the scoresheet as the Mariners recorded back-to-back away wins in the league. After half-an-hour of pressure from the hosts, John-Lewis opened the scoring 7 minutes from the break with a superb finish before the impressive Luke Young hit back for the Gulls with a well-taken free-kick 2 minutes before the interval. It looked as though the scores would remain level at half-time, but just before half-time, Disley capitalised on indecision in Torquays back-four to slide past Martin Rice. On 61 minutes, the Gulls hit back again when Aaron Downes headed home from a corner, but the Mariners were not to be denied and they grabbed the winner in the 69th minute when Rice bundled John-Lewis header over the line. Macclesfield Town beat Dover Athletic 1-0 at the Moss Rose. The home sides Paul Lewis grabbed the winner on 66 minutes, converting a low cross as the home sides second half pressure told. In the first half Dover managed to keep their play-off chasing hosts at bay as Macclesfield were restricted to half chances and failed to really test Whites keeper Andrew Rafferty. Meanwhile Tom Murphy had Dovers best chance at the other end, but shot over the bar from a tight angle. Dover started the second half on the front foot with Nick Deverdics firing just wide as they looked to build on their solid first half display, but after the goal they failed to create any clear cut chances to pull level. Wrexham conceded a late equaliser as Lincoln City hit back to earn a 1-1 draw at Sincil Bank. Returning midfielder Elliott Durrell had given Wrexham a 1-0 half-time lead with a 35th minute effort but the Reds, looking to end a run of three games without a win, were unable to kill the game off and Lincoln levelled 7 minutes to go - substitute Alan Power scoring from just outside the area after a corner was cleared. Eastleigh took their unbeaten home run to nine games and moved into eleventh place by beating Nuneaton Town at the Silverlake Stadium. The home side took the lead after 19 minutes when Craig McAllister drove home a half-volley from Stuart Fleetwoods flick-on. Eastleigh continued to dominate and Fleetwood had two chances before Jamie Collins finished from McAllisters back-heeled pass to make it two on 56 minutes. Nuneatons recent signing Onome Sodje then struck the post before Lee Fowler pulled one back with a terrific free-kick on 68 minutes. Chester FC grabbed a last gasp winner to secure maximum points against second-bottom Alfreton Town at the Swansway Stadium. Craig Mahon celebrated a winning goal in the 3rd minute of stoppage time after substitute Jamie Menagh had provided a superbly crafted right wing delivery. Tom Shaw had given the visitors a 15th minute lead, but Matty Hughes had equalised in the 29th minute to set up a tense second half until Mahon sealed Alfretons fate. A last-gasp strike from Joe Connor gave Southport victory over nine-man Welling United at the Merseyrail Community Stadium. Wings goalkeeper Jamie Turner was sent-off 4 minutes before the break for stamping on Southport striker Richard Brodie. Connor broke the deadlock in the 94th minute when he swept Brodies cross past substitute keeper Jonathan Henly and into the bottom left hand corner. There was still time for Welling player-manager Jamie Day to see red for violent conduct deep into stoppage time. Altrincham climbed out of the relegation zone with a hard-fought win over Braintree Town at Moss Lane. Midfielder Nicky Clee pounced on a rebound to slide home the only goal of the game midway through the first half. Braintree started brightly and midfielder James Mulley hit the bar with a thumping drive. The visitors twice came close to an equaliser in the closing stages, as Sam Habergham and Kenny Davis both fired inches wide of the post. Dartford fought back to draw with Aldershot Town at Princes Park. Josh Scott put the visitors` ahead after 24 minutes of a first half in which the Darts were pedestrian and predictable. But second half substitutions helped change the game and Andy Pugh scored on 67 minutes to earn Dartford a deserved point in the end.
