Saudi Kingdom: Four-wheel drives to chase illegals RIYADH — The Ministry of Labor has purchased new four-wheel drive vehicles to chase after illegal residents, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported. This comes in preparation of the inspection campaign the Ministry will conduct, as only a few days remain for the amnesty period granted to expatriates to rectify their status. These vehicles will allow the ministry to chase illegals who may resort to hiding in mountains, valleys, and other difficult to access locations. Sources said that the campaign will include all cities and villages, and penalties will be strictly applied on violators. The Philippines Foreign Ministry said that 4,003 workers have left the country, and that 1,761 Filipinos are awaiting departure. The ministry said that of the Filipinos who have left, 283 were mothers, and 317 were children. In addition, 2,274 were residing in Riyadh and 1,729 were residing in Jeddah. Sources said that more than 1.3 million Filipinos reside in the Kingdom, most of whom are housemaids. The spokesman for the Philippines Foreign Ministry said that Philippine missions in the Kingdom are working continuously to issue exit visas for those who wish to return home. Meanwhile the Embassy of India launched a Special Registration Drive (SRD) in Riyadh. This move was in part of its efforts to assist the overstaying Indians in the Kingdom. Around 300 Indian expatriates who have not yet obtained final exit from Tarheel or are facing difficulty in rectifying their status, approached the Embassy and registered themselves, so far. The Embassy, through the registration drive, intends to create a database of such Indians and bring it to the notice of the concerned Saudi authorities for appropriate action. The Indian Embassy urges all the overstaying Indian expatriates to rectify their legal status and approach the Embassy or volunteers registered with the Embassy immediately, in case of any difficulty being faced by them in this process. The Consulate General of India, Jeddah, has decided to extend its Special Registration Drive (SRD) for those Indians, who wish to avail the facility of special amnesty till November 3. In case of any difficulty, the individual may contact Consulate officials.
