Please share our graphic that this is an URBAN MYTH since the photo is circulating that dying tusks is a solution to poaching which it is not. There is not enough money for vets or tranquilizers, nor rangers to find hundreds of thousands of elephants to dye tusks. The dye will not penetrate the tusks. Carvers can still carve them, especially for chop sticks, the Chinese Tiffany of tableware. Poachers will not be deterred. As far as using antibiotics on baby elephants to stain their teeth, just the over use of antibiotics alone creates drug resistance when needed to combat infection. But the mothers will never let humans get near them. Again too much money for vets, tranquilizers and rangers. Better to fund anti poaching units and drones. And mainly it is better to get China to stop carving, stop it importation of ivory, stop selling ivory, and educate to stop the demand.
