Saw this in the paper ... Dr. John Walton Collette Sr. posted Mar 20, 2014 - 3:57:23pm CRESCENT CITY - Dr. John Walton Collette Sr., 89, passed away peacefully March 12, 2014, at Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka. A graveside service was held March 18 at Eden Cemetery, with Father Fred Beebe officiating. Dr. Collette was born Nov. 17, 1924, on his family farm “Lakeview” in Crescent City to his parents, Jessie Burton Collette and Herman Dane Collette. John was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Ruth, Bud and Jesse, as well as his first wife, Joanne Pickens Collette. With his mother’s signature and permission, John joined the U.S. Army Air Forces at the age of 17, and flew many missions over Europe during World War II. After the war, John came back to Crescent City to work alongside his father at “Lakeview.” During this time, he attended Stetson University, and, upon graduating from Stetson, he went to law school and was just short a few classes of completing his law degree. John was accepted into medical school at Emory University in Atlanta. After medical school, John completed his internship in Asheville, N.C., and his residency in Jacksonville. John began his medical practice in DeLand in 1959, where he specialized in emergency medicine, emergency medical services, and family practice. John practiced in DeLand until 1977, and then, wanting to be closer to “Lakeview,” he moved his practice to Seville, and then a few years later, he moved his family and medical practice to Crescent City, where he continued to practice until 2012. John is survived by his wife, Dorothy Peterson Collette of Lake Como; his son, John W. Collette Jr. of Palatka; daughter Jan (Roger D.) Rasnick and grandsons Brian, Colin Jon and Landon, all of Orange, Va. Memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Home Society of Northeast Florida, 3027 San Diego Road, Jacksonville, FL 32207, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to The Arc of Putnam County, 1209 Westover Drive, Palatka, FL 32177. Clayton Frank & Biggs Funeral Home in Crescent City was in charge.
