Saw this today and thought it might be of interest to some;_ OK folks, it’s time to compare and contrast. Below are two videos: the first of the press conference held immediately after the 2013 budget by Lawrence Gonzi, the second a clip from the press conference held immediately after the 2015 budget by Joseph Muscat (the fact that I can’t find the whole thing might be news in itself. Does Kurt Farrugia think the prime minister did badly?). It is important to point out that these press conferences were held under extreme pressure for both prime ministers, Lawrence Gonzi’s government was on the verge of collapse. He was dealing with Franco Debono ringing and texting him 700 times a day (and night) and with Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando and Jesmond Mugliett providing the rest of the 1000 cuts. Gonzi’s eyesight was also suffering because of the stress. Joseph Muscat is dealing with a whole bevy of scandals: Manuel Mallia, Luciano Busuttil, Helena Dalli, Chris Cardona and a bunch of other grabbing sleazeballs. Points of note: Joseph Muscat puts restrictions on journalists before they have even asked the first question. He tries very hard to avoid follow-up questions. Lawrence Gonzi gives journalists ample time to ask questions, lets them ask the questions they want to and in whatever style they feel is best. Joseph Muscat dodges questions or says that he doesn’t know how to answer. Lawrence Gonzi answers each and every question clearly, thoroughly and to the best of his abilities. Joseph Muscat has bile, anger and hatred pouring out of his every pore. Lawrence Gonzi answers questions calmly, serenely and in a prime ministerial manner. Joseph Muscat is a one-man show (admittedly, old Edward must have needed some rest and recuperation after that four-hour marathon). Lawrence Gonzi had the finance minister on hand to answer any technical questions he was not able to answer himself (not many). Worst of all, and like a complete savage, Joseph Muscat literally turns his back on one of his guests. (A press conference is an invitation to journalists to come and ask questions. Imagine inviting someone to an event and giving them your back when they turn up. Ten-year-olds are taught not to do this). Needless to say, Lawrence Gonzi treats all journalists, even the Super One ones, equally. Switchers, watch and feel shame envelop you. You traded a first-rate gentleman who knew what he was doing for a pile of rubbish. The questions in the Lawrence Gonzi start in the fourteenth minute. https://youtube/watch?v=QzD1g2JtQMI https://youtube/watch?v=qI86U97uo3E
