Scamwatch Recently Tasmania Police have received reports - TopicsExpress

Scamwatch Recently Tasmania Police have received reports relating to members of the public receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be from Telstra or Microsoft. The caller states there is an issue with either your computer or internet service. The caller will then try to gain remote access to your computer and also request credit card information to pay a small fee for their service. Tasmania Police would strongly recommend that under no circumstances should you allow anyone web access to your computer and never provide credit card details to an unknown person over the phone. For internet service issues and computer advice please contact your internet service provider or computer hardware/software manufacturer. Any calls received of this nature should be reported through scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au). If you believe you have been a victim of a fraud of this nature, please contact your bank or financial institution and if you have had funds removed from your account, contact your local Police.
