Scandal of the century: The U.S. taxpayer is funding human trafficking. Over $60 billion since 2001 has been funneled through the Pentagon to big military contractors such as DynCorp and KBR (Halliburton) who then subcontract with hundreds of smaller entities who trick men in poor countries (India, Nepal, Phillipines) to pay big fees for the promise of a job building U.S. military bases. But the men languish in a city of labor camps in Dubai for months (where theyre charged rent for their own captivity) doomed to a bottomless indebtedness to the subcontractor. Although this practice was exposed in 2006, nothing has changed since the Pentagon and military corporations have plausible deniability and the hundreds of thousands tricked into debt slavery are voiceless.
