Historic Smithville Park 803 Smithville Road, Eastampton, NJ co.burlington.nj.us/parks Open to the public October 6 through October 31 People’s Choice Awards – voting begins Oct 8 and ends on Oct. 20. Entry deadline is Monday, September 30, 2013, 5 pm in the Parks Office Entry Fee: $10 for individuals/families; $25 for groups; organizations and businesses. Entry fees will be used toward cash prizes. Eligibility: The contest is open to all ages. Participants can be individuals, families, clubs, and group of friends, youth groups, service organizations, or businesses. Categories: Traditional – This category should keep the crows away from Farmer John’s Corn. Thematic – this category includes just about any theme such as, fairy tale, storybook, TV show, movie, celebrity, etc. Use your imagination. All scarecrows must be tasteful for this family event. Rules: This is a family-friendly event. Scarecrows can be humorous, lovable, whimsical, but not frightening or distasteful. (Burlington County Parks Staff has the right to disqualify any entries not appropriate for a family-friendly event.) Materials must be firmly attached to the scarecrow so that it can stand up to sun, wind and rain. The typical scarecrow starts with a 2x4 piece of lumber for the body, and dowel or broom stick for the arms. Let your imagination be your guide. Scarecrows will be mounted to light standards within Historic Smithville Park. Parks Dept will supply one 6’ length of rope for mounting to light standards. It is recommended that you supply additional rope or wire since every scare crow’s needs may be different. Additional props are permitted such as corn stalks, bales of hay, etc. County and the Parks Dept. cannot be responsible for damaged scarecrows and props. Size: Maximum height of scarecrow of 7 feet. Scarecrow with props cannot exceed more than 3 ft. on each side of scarecrow, for a total of 6 feet. Scarecrow installation can take place Thursday Oct. 3 through Sunday, 0ct. 6th from 8am – 5pm. All entries must be in place by Sunday, Oct. 7 by 5pm. People Choice Awards will be announced at Fall Float on Oct. 20th with winners in each category announced at 3:45pm. Each scarecrow display must have a sign to identify the entry: Name of group or business, or club. Category you are entering. Businesses may include company logo. No political statements are permitted. All entries will be on display at Historic Smithville Park from Oct. 6 through Thursday, October 31. We recommend that you check on your scarecrow periodically to make sure it remains in presentable condition. Burlington County Staff will not be responsible for maintaining the scarecrows. All entries must be picked up no later than November 13, 2012. Entries not picked up by November 14 will become property of the Burlington County Parks Dept. Entry Deadline: September 30, 2013 Cash prizes will be announced on October 20, 2013 Entry fees go toward prizes
