On the 17th of May, I planned to attend a programme on the Beemapalli police firing in Tirur conducted by SIO Malappuram. It was a rare public programme in Kerala organised to commemorate the second largest Police massacre in the history of our state. As I was busy with lot of organisational issues that day, I received a phone call from the Police special branch of Police enquiring about me. They asked me many questions as if I was creating problems in this part of world. They already had information about me and wanted to know more about my activities. I lied to them that I was not from Panakkad and told them I came from a different place. I thought, “Why should I help them with accurate information?”. What crossed my mind was that they should do their job without the help of others. They asked many questions some of which I can’t remember now, but I promised myself that next time I will try to become less nervous so that I remember their questions. I know that this is an everyday reality for many of us and that we don’t want to share it in public for many reasons. I don’t know, maybe, this is the price one needs to pay in Kerala to talk about Beemapalli Police firing. After all these days, I decided to share this experience rather than forget it."
