Byrne United States Courthouse 601 Market Street Philadelphia, PA, 19106 On January 13, 2015, Muslim Advocates and the Center for Constitutional Rights are back in court to challenge the NYPDs suspicionless surveillance of American Muslims. Join us at the courthouse! The Third Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments over whether individuals targeted and surveilled by the NYPD solely on account of their religious affiliation have the right to bring suit for injuries suffered as a result of the discriminatory policy. Our plaintiffs include a decorated Iraq war veteran, current and former Rutgers University students, the parent organization of the Muslim Student Associations of Rutgers University (Newark and New Brunswick campuses), a coalition of New Jersey mosques, and the owners and proprietors of a grade-school for Muslim girls. This disparate group of individuals and organizations share just one characteristic: their Muslim affiliation. That fact alone led the NYPD to target and surveil them in clear violation of bedrock U.S. constitutional principles. CCR’s Legal Director Baher Azmy will argue the case. We advise arriving 30-45 minutes early to go through security, and you should bring a state-issued ID to be able to get in.
