Scheuerle does it again at Archerfield There was some close racing and plenty of wheel stands that thrilled the crowd last night at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway. A very fast and racy track presented for round 11 of the KRE Race Engines Series with half the field running under the 12 second mark in time trials. Come feature time, two racing lines allowed for wheel-to-wheel action; edge of your seat stuff. The double point’s marble was drawn at drivers briefing, adding to the intensity. Jamie Bricknell, Luke Oldfield and Kevin Titman argued over the lead during the 30 lap Sprintcar A Main, each enjoying clear air at some point but in the end Andrew Scheuerle capitalised on several caution lights to claw his way from seventh to first across the finish line for the Ausdeck Patios and Roofing team; extending his lead in the KRE series. “We tried a couple of new things tonight that didn’t work in the heats but we changed it back and got the car rolling for the A (Main),” said Andrew. Luke Oldfield had a blinder of a first lap in the feature; challenging for the lead in the first turn. He got there briefly but ended up meeting the chequered flag in second. The JB Automotive/Shock Shack Maxim raced cleanly and to finish on the podium was a far cry from a bare chassis Friday afternoon after a rollover whilst racing the previous weekend. Luke said it was a bit desperate out there but it was a good race. “It was good racing side-by-side with Jamie. A big thanks to the crew - Andrew, Brendan and Dad. It was a big rebuild this week.” Tasmania’s Jamie Bricknell was unsure as to how the night would unfold but couldn’t be happier with a podium finish. The night got off to a great start for the Titan team with quick time in time trials (11.588seconds) backed up with top point’s scorer at the conclusion of heats. “It’s a credit to the team; they know their stuff here,” said Jamie. He wouldn’t confirm whether he’d be driving for the team again; they seem to be taking things one round at a time. Robbie Farr ran out of laps to make the final spot on the podium and had to settle for fourth. In the feature the car appeared to be set up for the end, coming on strong. The East Coast Pipeline Racing team are experimenting with a number of factors ahead of next season; they’re aiming for consistency throughout their arsenal so that the gear is all the same. They head south this weekend to race but plan to return to Archerfield in a fortnight for round 12 of the KRE series. Paul rooks had a great night; he made the top six in the Dash and rounded out the top five in the feature. Heat wins went to Melissa Boyes, Anthony Lambert, Paul Morris, Terry Bracken, Robbie Farr and Matt Butler. Bryan Mann carried his second place pace in time trials (11.607seconds) and won the Lucas Oils Dash things didn’t go as smoothly in the A-Main. Mann was hot on the heels of Kevin Titman when Titman spun out of turn 4 whilst leading the feature. With no time to react, the pair made contact and were sent to the rear. It was a huge effort by the KRE Race Engines team to make the A-Main. Darren Jensen got caught in a crash in the first heat, missed the next two whilst fixing the car and then transferred from the B-Main along with Matthew Butler, David Whell and Paul Morris. Jensen managed to finish inside the top 10. Commiserations to the Desert Palms Resort team who were running strong before detonating an engine in heat 3. Other DNF’s on the night included Steven Rowell and Melissa Boyes. David Whell made unavoidable contact with David Muir in the A-Main when the steering box let go on Muir’s #3 Spanloc car. The DMA Modlites ran the first round of the chase in the WLS/DGRE Driver to America Series and it was Michael Kendall who came out on top. A late charge by Aussie champ Jamie McHugh saw him finish in second and Chris Ruane came home in third. Next Saturday night will be huge as it’s the Modified Production 1000. The V8 Dirt Modifieds take to the track along with AMCA’s, Formula 500’s, Open Sedans and the FordvHoldenvSigma showdown. Check brisbanespeedway.au and facebook/archerfieldspeedway for details.
