Scholarships for Haitians (By TTnewsflash Reporter) NINETEEN scholarships will be offered to Haitians, according to the Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills Training, Senator Fazal Karim. The scholarships will be granted in different areas of technical and vocational training. Karim yesterday witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Energy Skills Centre (NESC), one of the agencies under his ministry and Petrogaz a Haitian oil company starting exploratory oil work in Haiti. The Chairman of the NESC, Feeroz Khan explained the scholarships will be awarded for tuition. The Metal Industries Company (MIC) is offering similar scholarships to five Haitian Nationals in the areas of plumbing, welding, electrical, culinary and food preparation, masonry and carpentry. These scholarships given by the NESC and the MIC are being seen as Karim’s response to Fred Elusma, president of PetroGaz, Haiti call for building the human capacity of Haiti. Karim added that a study of the needs of the Haitian workforce will need to be done before more investments are made.
