Scientific research and science literacy have already gotten us a quick start in understanding better about what we do, how it works, and why it works or doesnt work. It helps us communicate better with our clients who have questions about why they have pain, how does massage and touch work, and other problems they have. There is no need to churn up a folktale, dogma, superstition, or myth to explain. If there is something we dont know, we simply admit it and most likely do some research and get back to the client. I’ve never actually shown research to clients for them to read, but I did have one client ask me point blank, “Does drinking water after a massage really flush out toxins?” I answered as truthfully as I could, “You know, that is what I was taught in massage school, but since graduating I haven’t found any strong research supporting that claim. I do know this - if I do not stay hydrated after a massage myself, I usually get a headache. Therefore, hydration does have some positive effect.” info.massagetherapyfoundation.org/blog/bid/344709/how-i-used-research-in-my-first-year-as-a-massage-therapist?utm_content=6031227&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook
