Scientist – Entomology - Environment Agency- Abu Dhabi: People Management Supervise the activities of subordinates, through developing and motivating staff, conducting performance appraisals for direct reports, providing formal and informal feedback in order to maximise subordinates performance to ensure that all the work is carried out in an efficient manner. Day-to-Day Operations Supervise the day-to-day operations assigned for the Assistant Scientists to ensure compliance with the established standards and procedures, and that employee activities are performed in a timely, efficient, and effective manner. Report on a regular basis to the Team Lead - Fauna on the operational activities, challenges and issues faced, mitigations taken, etc. as required, to keep them informed and updated on the activities performed. 2 Assessment and Monitoring Prepare schedules and plans for field work, in coordination with the Terrestrial Protected Areas and Wildlife Law Enforcement section, in order to ensure that systematic scientific data is collected. Guide the Assistant Scientist in conducting monitoring activities in order to collect data on the presence and absence of invertebrates within TPAs and selected sites. Document, capture and maintain data from invertebrates monitoring activities to ensure adequate and comprehensive data is maintained for lab work and analyses activities, and ensure data is collected in line with set priorities, standards and guidelines. Review collected data / samples and trapped invertebrates to understand current state of invertebrates, and analyse findings against various selected sites and previously captured data inventory in order to understand trends and changes, and impact on the environment. Conduct analyses of field work against set measures, conservation programmes and biodiversity considerations in order to identify trends and threats, and evaluate effectiveness of conservation programmes. Chemical Analyses Ensure the collection of water samples from protected lakes, conduct chemical analyses of the water and record physical parameters ensuring accurate water quality testing in order to understand the population dynamics, ecology and habitat requirements of the brine shrimp. Reference Collection Develop and oversee the maintenance of the reference collection in order to ensure accurately recording of all identified invertebrates Educational Awareness Provide support to the Environmental Outreach Division in the preparation of educational material related to invertebrates assessment and monitoring findings and activities, and deliver educational sessions, as deemed necessary, in order to contribute to environmental awareness. Report Preparation Prepare reports to present entomology related research, assessment and monitoring activities and key findings, evaluate identified issues, and provide recommendations in order to inform effective decision making and to support the development of terrestrial biodiversity and conservation policies, regulations and plans. Collaboration Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on matters related to entomology research, assessment and monitoring in order to facilitate flow of information and build awareness. Policies, Processes and Procedures Participate in the development of the Terrestrial Assessment and Conservation section policies, processes and procedures, technically and operationally and ensure adherence so that all requirements are fulfilled and aligned with the operations. Change Management Support the creation of a change management culture through taking a ‘hands-on’ and ‘can-do’ approach to EAD’s new business changes, participating rapidly to the development of new initiatives, meeting planned targets, and demonstrating preferred high performance behaviours.
