Scotland - A guinea pig has been abandoned on a bus in Edinburgh. A passenger found the animal inside a cardboard pet carrier that was covered in urine on the number 44 Lothian bus in the Brunstane area of the city. They handed him into a nearby police station and officers called the Scottish SPCA. The guinea pig, who has been named Cracker, is now being cared for a the charity’s rehoming centre. Animal welfare officer Duncan Robertson said: Cracker was found inside a cardboard pet carrier which was saturated with urine. There was also a bag of food, a packet of sawdust and an empty bowl inside. She had urine scald on her feet and was suffering from mites so she has been receiving antibiotics and pain relief in our care. We think its very likely Cracker was abandoned but we also cant rule out the possibility someone may have been transporting her and left her behind when they got off the bus. Either way, we are very glad Cracker was found by someone who helped her. We are keen to hear from anyone who recognises Cracker and knows who she might belong to. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Scottish SPCA on 03000 999 999.
