Scott & Jeff, All city water, in this area, has been contaminated. We are advised to not drink it. I have heard that it is ok for hygiene purposes but originally the advice was to not touch the water. Boiling the water or cooking with it will enhance the contaminate instead of killing it. Almost all stores are out of bottled water and most of the produce has been removed from they shelves (the stores used city water to spray produce to keep it fresh). Some of our outlying churches have volunteered to bottle their well water and take it where it is needed. I am trying to contact the Lucas County Emergency Management Service to determine: Is well water safe? If not how can it be tested. How can it be purified? Who needs water? i.e. nursing homes, churches, homeless shelters, etc. Where to take it? If they can not use bottled well water, do they need help distributing their bottled water to different places? Is money available for our expenses. We do not know if this is a one day or 1 month crisis. People at the State level are working on the issue and FEMA has been contacted by US House Representative for this area. Agencies are trying to expedite delivery of and/or re-route bottled water to this area. Some Fire Stations are sharing any water they have stored. Do nothing now but what we MIGHT need: For other districts to procure bottled water that we can pick up or have it delivered After I send this, I will send an e-mail to all ERT members asking for availability to POTENTIALLY:: Pick up &/or deliver water Help bottle well water Help distribute water --- either ours or someone elses Prayerfully, this situation will not last long and we will not need any help.
