Scott Pelley to Host Jerry Jones NFF Leadership Hall of Fame Induction Dallas Cowboys Owner and former All-SWC OL will be honored Oct. 3 at star-studded event in Dallas. IRVING, Texas (Sept. 25, 2013) - The National Football Foundation (NFF) announced today that Scott Pelley, anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News and a CBS 60 Minutes correspondent, will host the NFF Leadership Hall of Fame induction of Jerry Jones, owner, president and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, on Oct. 3 at the Omni Dallas Hotel. Jones, a former offensive lineman on the 1964 Arkansas national championship team, has become one of the nation’s leading businessmen and humanitarians, and in July the NFF announced that he would be inducted as a charter inductee into its newly formed NFF Leadership Hall of Fame. The new platform provides the organization with a powerful vehicle for recognizing the country’s most influential individuals who have ascended to the highest levels of success and exhibited the critical leadership qualities that transcend ordinary enterprises. Celebrities scheduled to participate at the event alongside Pelley include (in order of appearance) NFF Chairman and College Football Hall of Fame quarterback from Ole Miss Archie Manning; Arizona State and Dallas Cowboys All-Pro Darren Woodson; NBC Emmy Award-winning sportscaster Al Michaels; Sports Illustrated writer and NBC Sports commentator Peter King; host of the NFL on FOX Curt Menefee; radio voice of the Dallas Cowboys Brad Sham; NFF Board Member and BP Capital Founder T. Boone Pickens; NFF Board Member and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback for UCLA and the Dallas Cowboys Troy Aikman; NFF Board Member and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback for Navy and the Dallas Cowboys Roger Staubach. “Jerry Jones has established himself as one of our nation’s top businessmen with a desire to win that is eclipsed by no one,” said NFF Chairman Manning. “He honed his leadership skills early in life as an All-Southwest Conference player for Hall of Fame coach Frank Broyles on the 1964 national championship Razorback team, and he has built on those successes ever since. We are thrilled to have him as a charter NFF Leadership Hall of Fame inductee.” The 7:30 p.m. CT event will be preceded by a 6:30 p.m. red carpet reception, which will be carried live on KTVT-TV (CBS 11 – Dallas/Ft. Worth). The ceremony will showcase Jones and his many accomplishments as a young football player, a successful businessman in the oil and gas industry and as an influential and trailblazing sports leader with the NFL. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the NFF’s Football Matters to Me campaign. The initiative aims to identify the men who played college football and subsequently went on to amazing accomplishments with football as a key catalyst to their achievements. The goal of the campaign is to generate a strong understanding of how the values learned through football translate to success later in life. As part of the launch of the campaign, the NFF will premiere a 30-second TV spot at the event that features Jeff Immelt, the chairman and CEO of GE and a former offensive lineman at Dartmouth College. The spot captures Immelt’s perspective on the value of his football experiences in running one of the world’s largest and most successful industrial conglomerates. Serving as role models for future generations to emulate, members of the NFF Leadership Hall of Fame must embody the same qualities in amateur football that define excellence in American life: hard work, discipline, determination, teamwork, integrity and the relentless pursuit to improve. Each inductee’s accomplishments will be enshrined in an exhibit at the new College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, scheduled to open its doors in late 2014. Jones, who has served on the NFF Board of Directors since 2008, joins George Pyne, the president of IMG Worldwide Sports and Entertainment, as charter inductees into the NFF Leadership Hall of Fame. “Jerry Jones cares deeply about the future of football, and he has been a great supporter for the NFF and its mission to protect the game for subsequent generations,” said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. “He fully understands the power the sport commands in our society today, and he knows firsthand the value the sport can play in transforming young lives by teaching valuable lifelong lessons and creating educational opportunities. His accomplishments and commitment to the sport make him the perfect person to help us launch the NFF Leadership Hall of Fame. We are thankful for his contributions on many, many levels.”
