Scrolling through the feed lately, Ive seen a lot of posts for and against $15/hr for fast food workers. I see very good points on both sides of the argument and I almost cant side with one or the other. Each job whether flipping burgers or handling multi-million dollar accounts has its challenges. Some jobs require years of education while others require just diploma/GED. Of course the person who has invested in higher education would get paid more. I make under $14 an hour and Im living just fine on my own paying rent, my car, school loans, food, gas, etc. I dont see how a fast food worker should make more than me after Ive worked so hard to get to where I am - 10+ years!. You dont just enter the workforce and make lots of money off the bat. It never worked that way. You have to prove youre a good worker...not just work. It is hard just starting out, but thats how you learn to appreciate the work you put into making your life better. If min wage is $15/hr...I dont see how people would appreciate that anymore. I might say bump minimum wage up just a little bit more (Between $8 and $10?) and then offer more hours to workers. Those who prove exceptional should get raises more often. Thats how they can get to where they want. College grads work their asses off to get a good paying job and those who choose not to go to college (or cant afford it) will have to climb up to a better life within the workforce starting at the bottom. More recognition...money alone wont fix it. Recognize exceptional workers so they are motivated to work up. Plus if everyone gets double the current wage to start - cost of living will go up and it will be for nothing. There will be even less hours for them to work because companies would cut to make up the difference. There is a better solution...
