Sea Shells, Soupy Sales, and the Secret to a Happy Life. Mother never met a shell she did not like. When she went to Florida she would beat the sun up in the morning to walk the beach looking for these treasures. I remember watching her from our balcony one year after Daddy died. She would walk, pick up a shell, look out over the ocean as if wondering where the shell began its journey to the shore, and then she would look up; I thought that she was talking silently to God, her Husband, or maybe the gulls gliding overhead. Then she would walk on. That year she met Soupy Sales on an elevator going down to the beach. Mother and Soupy hit it right off. Mother did not know the meaning of the words Stranger or Shy. They talked and laughed for some time on that beach. Soupy had his own TV comedy show in the sixties and was quite popular on Laugh In. As I think of that day I realize why Mother had such a Happy Life. She Loved Big, Laughed Lots, and actually Lived in the Joy Of The Lord. Therein is the Secret. You can do it too. Do good today.
