“Sea monster” captured in E.China The body of a 4.5-meter-long, two-ton giant mystery fish has drawn crowds of people in the local #fish market in Shishi, in east China’s #Fujian Province. The #fisherman who captured the fish, named Cai Chengzhu, said he and his colleagues found the dead fish at around 2 a.m. on August 1st. “We found a big hole in the net when we drew the net out from the water”, Cai told the reporter from Xinhua. “It’s believed that the giant fish broke the net to eat the fish inside.” The giant fish died during its struggle to escape from the net. It took Cai and his colleague nearly an hour to pull it out from the water. When asked about how to handle the dead fish, Cai said he hoped to sell the fish for 10 to 20 thousand yuan. After seeing photos of the creature the local fisheries department said that it might be a whale shark, however they would only be able to confirm after a physical examination. The whale shark is among China’s protected animals list. It’s illegal to purchase or sell #whale #shark meat.
