Seasonal Rainfall Outlook Report was also made publicly available yesterday from the Climate Services Section. The report has highlighted the following findings and predictions of seasonal (3-monthly and 6-monthly) rainfall for Samoa. SUMMARY STATEMENT Rainfall in June 2013 was generally ‘above average’. Togitogiga, Asau and Maota stations recorded ‘average’ rainfall. The 3-monthly total rainfall at most climate stations was ‘average’ in June except Afiamalu and Apia stations which registered ‘above average’ rainfall. Togitogiga station received in June, 45% of its total 3-monthly rainfall. The tropical Pacific Ocean remains neutral state - neither El Niño nor La Niña in June 2013. Most ENSO indicators are currently in the neutral range and highly likely to persist over the coming 3 months (August to October) ‘Average to above average’ rainfall is predicted for the next 3 months (August to October 2013). See page 5 for village/district specific outlook. Rainfall forecast output by SCOPIC model for November 2013 to January 2014 is biased towards ‘average to above average’ for the Samoa island group.
