Second time lucky. Hello fellow burger fiends, this is my first review and I have found an absolute cracker. When I was a young bloke I lived in Petersham and sometimes for shits and giggles my housemates and I would head up to the Oxford Tavern. It was like stepping back in time to when things were a little less PC, craft beer was a Crown Lager and the buns on display weren’t served on a plate. The place was full of the inner wests seediest individuals and always made for an entertaining, if not sometimes slightly dangerous afternoon. When it closed down and we heard it was being turned into another American themed BBQ joint we vowed never to step back inside but that is exactly what I did last Sunday and I do not regret a thing. I ordered the $18 Hickory Burger which was a tasty, juicy patty topped with cheese, along with pickles, bacon and ketchup on a nice soft bun. Nothing all that out of the ordinary really, however it was the special hickory sauce that took this burger to another level. The smoky flavours really made this burger something else and it is definitely my favourite burger in Sydney right now. I don’t want to go out giving unicorns on my first review but something seriously special is going to have to come along to beat this one. I’m giving it 4.75/5. The crinkle cut chips that came with the burger were decent there weren’t all that many of them 3/5. For some added fun I recommend trying the Jelly Wrestle dessert, a party platter filled with jelly, ice cream, whipped cream, waffles, popcorn and cherries which comes with four gloves rather than bowls and spoons, we were in stiches trying to eat this thing.
