Secret of Bliss 12 - (Dec. 3) Jude woke up. He was awaken by a womans lovely singing voice outside. He wore his shirt, and slowly peeped in the window. He saw a beautiful young lady, who was sweeping the leaves in the yard while singing. Slowly, he went out of the hut. He went towards the young woman wondering, who she was. The young lady was sweeping with her back facing the hut. Jude came closer to her smiling. When Jude said hello, the young woman turned around in surprised. She felt a shame at first, blushing, for she never thought that somebody heard her singing. On the other hand, seeing the young man, made her felt happy, for she knew how boring her stay in Nanas place will be, being alone most of the time. “I am sorry, if I surprised you.” Jude apologized. The young Lady havent recovered yet. She was holding her chest and was trying to catch her breath. Jude continued, “I am Jude. Nana allowed me to stay here to teach me things about life.” “I am Tina. Nana is my grandma. She told me about you. You were still sleeping, and I had forgotten about you, when I came last night. Don’t worry. I was not afraid of you. You just surprise me, when I saw you.” Tina said. Jude looked at her with much admiration. Her long hair and the her Indian complexion complemented her beauty. “By the way, I cooked some boiled banana, you might want to eat now.” Tina invited. “Sure!” Jude replied. He picked up one banana, while still looking at her. “Ouch, it’s hot,” he yelled. Tina laughed. She said, Why didnt’t you hold it slowly? Of course, It is hot. It just came out from the fire. For sure, it should be really hot. Are you OK?” Tina inquired with care “Yes, I am.” He answered. He was still shaking his hand to ease the pain. Tina was still smiling, when they saw the Nana was coming towards them carrying some fire woods. Jude ran towards Nana. He took the fire woods from her, while walking besides her. “So you two had met?” Nana asked. Yes Nana, I met him this morning, after he scared me to death.” She said it jokingly. “No, I dont have the intention of scaring her, but she turned around abruptly, as I was approaching her and saying hello.” He countered. “OK, you two stop arguing. Let’s eat our breakfast now. By the way, we will go to the village, where we will help some parents do their chores, to give them some rest.” Nana informed them. “Why do we need to do that?” Jude inquired. “You know Jude, there are many parents, who have so much things to do. Taking care of their kids. Work to earn their living. Manage the abode they live, and many more. Because of all those responsibilities, they dont have time for themselves. They dont even have time to rest. If we could give them sometime off, it will be a great respite for them. You know what, some of them dont just manage their homes. There are others, who takes care of their parents and sick relatives. They even dont have time to worship their God. Taking some of the load on their shoulders will allow them to have sometime to do things that can help them progress spiritually. Their responsibilities can only allow them to have a little time with their partners. Think about it. By extending help to them, we are making a sacrificed that enable those people to regain their spiritual, mental, and emotional health.” Nana, explained. “Wow, I didnt think of that. Let’s eat and go right away to help them.” Jude excitedly uttered. Hearing the excitement of Jude, Tina just smiled and started eating.” They arrived in the village around 7:30 am. They were received by the people with so much happiness. Jude went to a house of a single mom with 3 kids. The mom was ready to go when he arrived. She told him to give the 3 kids a bath and feed them. She also asked him, if he could also bring them outside to play. She said that this was the first time in a month that she can go to the church. Jude said yes, and the lady left. Jude doesnt know where to start, but he promised himself that he will do his best to help his family in his small way. He called the kids and started giving them a bath. Giving the kids a bath was a task that is really hard for him. The kids were playing, while taking a bath, which made him wet. So many times he was hit by the bar of soap on the face that the kids threw. He patiently cleaned them up. Finally, he was able to finished giving them a bath. He dressed them up and let them sit on the table. He prepared their breakfast. The eating time was done well. The kids ate the banana that they brought with great appetite. They then drank water, which satisfied their thirst. After cleaning up the table, he brought the kids to a park, where they played until they got hungry again. He enjoyed every moment accompanying and playing with the kids. They were so sweet, and most of the time will come to him, to give him a hug and a kiss. They called him Papu, which he liked so much, even if he doesnt know what it meant. He cherished the friendship that these three kids were giving him. Nana, on the other hand got an old man, who can’t walk anymore, and was very sick, for her to take care of. She fed him and gave him drink. She prepared a basin for him, to give him a sponge bath. As she was giving him his bath, he saw the man crying. She asked him why he was crying? He said that for a long time now, he havent have anybody gave him the importance that she was giving him. She lost his wife, whom he loved so much. After his wife death, he himself had lost the interest to live. His kids cant be found anywhere. They just left him alone. He thanked her for spending sometime to help him. He said that it meant a lot to him. He asked her, if she was an angel. Nana, tears dropped and said that she was only a simple human being, who also knew how to be alone, but had focus more not on what she lost, but on what she can give, to lighten the load of those, who felt unloved. She hugged the old man and kissed him. She said to him to continue finding his spirit and make it live. She said that no matter how hard life is, there will be always a reason for us to live. The old man smiled. He said that she was right and from now on, he will try to better himself, as he finds his spirit to live and be of help to others too. Tina on the other hand took care of a pregnant woman. She helped her cleaned her house that was so messy, because she felt so sick the past week. She cooked her rice and fried fish. The lady was so thankful that she had somebody, to help her in managing the house. She told Tina, if she can be a God Mother for her child. Tina accepted the offer wholeheartedly. She was happy to be a part of her childs life. She told the lady that if by any chance she needs help, just let her know. They both enjoyed the day talking about things that interest them. The sky darken, the day was over. The villager have a gathering in a camp fire. Everyone whom they helped were given the opportunity to thank them. The mother of three was the first to say her piece, “I am so thankful to Papu Jude, who took care of my kids. All the time, as I do my part being a mom, I feel so tired. I thought that the hardship of being a single mom will never stop, I always long to have sometime for myself. I long for peace, but when my kids were sick, I am solely responsible for them. You young man had given me back my spirit to be able to give myself, a sacrificed to my kids. This one day of my life is a gift from you, who don’t even know me, but have given yourself, as a person who had partaken a part of my life. Thank you once again. I can see how my kids love you, for until now they were still in your lap enjoying the moment with you.” The lady said with a smile. The other two family said their piece too, but because Nana and Tina were common faces to the village, they just gave them a kissed and a hugged. They have mingled with the town people, learning so many things about life. The hardships and happiness that they both experience with there family. The time of leaving the town people had arrived. They gave each one a hug. As Jude was saying goodbye to the kids, the 3 kids jumped on him, wrapped their arms around him, and would not let go. They want Jude to stay. Knowing that Papu is leaving made them feel sad. They where crying. Yes, they don’t want Jude to go. Their mom pulled them. She consoled them, by saying that Papu will be back. Jude then promised to the 3 kids that he will be back, and the next time around they will have a great time, better than what they had that day. The 3 kids stopped crying, and waved good bye. Jude felt so great, and asked Nana, when they will come back there, to be of help to those people once again. Tina said that they are just doing it once a month. But if he wants to visit them, he can always go and be of help to them. Jude stated, “This is another thing that really gave me so much happiness. The feeling of being with those kids, who dont have any inhibitions made love grows in my heart, as I serve them without thinking of anything in return. Taking care of them was like giving me a task that was so enjoyable. The laughter I had with those kids made me want to extend the day. I really didnt know that serving was such a great way of finding happiness, without trying too much. I felt happy before, but this is really different. Yes, another Secret of Bliss.” Jude, you are right, this is another Secret of Bliss. You have to give without expecting something back. The more you give of yourself, the more God fills your heart with joy that you can’t comprehend by the physical realm of your existence. Giving is actually stepping on God’s shoes telling people that they are being Love by their God, because of what you are doing. Service given freely makes a flower of joy blooms, for you cultivated the ground of love in your heart. As it was said in the Holy Book, Faith, Hope, and Charity were the foremost gift from God, but Charity remains the greatest of all. Give, and your heart will be filled with joy.” Nana Explained. “I will remember that.” Jude confirmed. When they reached the hut, they were so tired. They rested for a while. They soon started their meditation, and after an hour or two, they finished and went straight to their beds to sleep. Jude still have the smile on his face. He was still visualizing the happiness that he had with the kids. He is Papu. What a nice name. He repeatedly say Papu, Papu, Papu...... Until his eyes closed. (Adai Nanda) Note: Do you have time to give to your friends, who really needs help right now, taking care of their love ones? Will you give time to mentor some of the kids in your community? Don’t just think of the material things that you want to give this Christmas. Give yourself, your time, your love, to the unfortunates, who have not felt the joy of being love. Make yourself the hands and feet of God here on earth, for people to know God is always there for them. There are lots of people who are suffering right now. If you can just help one, you did your part, and if all of us will do our part, sufferings will be eliminated, because we care, and lend our hands and hearts to ease their pain. Christmas will mean a lot and will make you feel great happiness, if you do your part in helping the unfortunates. Try it, and feel the joy of living this Secret of Bliss in your life. (Adai Nanda).
