Secretary Coloma lauds college writers of Western Visayas By Vicente W. Villavert ILOILO CITY, Dec. 2 (PIA 6) - - Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma lauded the 330 college editors from various universities and colleges in Western Visayas who attended the recent College Press Conference or COPRE 2013. In his video message Secretary Coloma said that the activity is “one of the best practice programs of our agency,” and through this the student writers have the opportunity to hone their journalistic skills. Coloma shared to the COPRE participants his aspiration to become a writer too during his younger days while in school, until he became a regular columnist of the Business World. He also shared three important ideas to student writers. These are: to write is already to choose; the pen is mightier than the sword; and to be a person for others. Coloma urged the student writers to use the power of the pen to write stories of kindness that will inspire many more to serve our brethren in need. Coloma said that many great leaders and heroes of nations are also known for what they wrote, because they have moved many people into believing in their worthy cause, inspired others to transcend their self-interest, and they chose to serve others. COPRE is a yearly activity of Philippine Information Agency conducted to assess the skills of the college writers learned from the PIA’s basic journalism workshops. The activity awards best performing editors, writers in the field of development journalism. Individual on-the-spot contests in newswriting, feature writing, sports writing and photo contest, search for Mr. and Miss COPRE, and awarding of best performing school paper advisers highlighted the yearly activity.(JCM/VWV/PIA 6-Antique) #pia6
