Sedona and I have had a lot of long discussions about how to portray characters and what types of characters to portray. It almost seems as though fiction is in the vice-grip of the white man and those that write FOR the white man. In fiction we have the power to control every minute detail of a character, and yet Hollywood, and a lot of the other Media Gods, choose a cookie-cutter form. Would have been nice to grow up looking up to women (and men) of all types. I didnt have to deal with growing up watching stories based on people who were so different from me. And it breaks my heart that some kids (and very close friends) did. Dont keep showing me Strong Black Women archetypes. Show me REAL black women, please. And every other type, too. Thanks Felicia Day for bringing up a topic that should be on every fiction lovers mind!
