Seeking Forgiveness & Tawbah - Dua from the Quran & Sunnah بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ Building Iman: The Effect of Sin & The Triumph of Tawbah (رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ) [الأعراف/23] “Our Lord, we have wronged our souls, so if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us,(then) we will surely be among the losers.” {Surah al-A’raf (7) ayah 23} (رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلاَةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاء) [إبرهيم-40] "O my Lord! Make me one who performs As-Salaat (Iqaamat-as-Salaat), and (also) from my offspring, our Lord! And accept my invocation." (14/40) (رَّبِّ أَدْخِلْنِي مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٍ وَأَخْرِجْنِي مُخْرَجَ صِدْقٍ وَاجْعَل لِّي مِن لَّدُنكَ سُلْطَانًا نَّصِيرًا) [الإسراء-80] "My Lord! Let my entry be good, and likewise my exit be good. And grant me from You an authority to help me." (17/80) (رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ) [الأنبياء/89] "O My Lord! Leave me not single (childless), though You are the Best of the inheritors." (21/89) (رَبَّنَا لاَ تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِن نَّسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا رَبَّنَا وَلاَ تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِنَا رَبَّنَا وَلاَ تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لاَ طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا أَنتَ مَوْلاَنَا فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ) Our Lord, blame us not if we forget or fall into error. Our Lord, lay not upon us a burden like that which You placed upon those before us. Our Lord, lay not upon us a burden greater than we can bear. And pardon us and forgive us and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.” {Surah al-Baqarah (2) ayah 286} رَّبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًا “My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And increase not the wrongdoers except in ruin.” {Surah Nuh (71) ayah 28} (رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ) [البقرة/201] “Our Lord, give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good and protect us from the torment of the Fire.” {Surah al-Baqarah (2) ayah 201} رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَالِدَيَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ وَأَصْلِحْ لِي فِي ذُرِّيَّتِي ۖ إِنِّي تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِنِّي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ “O my Lord, grant me power and ability to be grateful for Your favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and that I may work righteousness such as will please You; and make my offspring righteous. Truly have I repented to You, and truly do I submit (to You) in Islam.” {Surah al-Ahqaf (46) ayah 15} اللهم انت ربى لا اله الا انت خلقتنى وانا عبدك, وانا على عهدك ووعدك مااستطعت, واعوذ بك من شر ما صنعت, وابؤلك بنعمتك على, وابؤ بذنبى فاغفر لى فانه لا يغفر الذنوب الا انت “O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I uphold Your covenant and (my) promise to You as much as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil I have done. I acknowledge before You Your favour upon me, and I acknowledge my sin; so forgive me. Indeed, there is none who can forgive sins except You.” (Bukhari and an-Nasa’i) اللهم انى اعوذ بك من الهم والحزن . واعوذ بك من غلبة الدين وقهر الرجال.واعوذ بك من العجز والكسل .. واعوذ من الجبن والبخل ... “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and grief, from inability and laziness and cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the coercion of people.” (Bukhari and Muslim) اللهم إني أعوذ بك من علم لا ينفع ، ومن قلب لا يخشع ، ومن نفس لا تشبع ، ومن دعوة لا يستجاب لها “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit me, from a heart that is not subdued, from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered.” (Muslim) رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ “Our Lord, accept this from us. Truly, You are the most Hearing, Knowing.” {Surah al-Baqarah (2) ayah 127} اللهم صل على محمد وعلى آل محمد، كما صليت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم، وبارك على محمد وعلى آل محمد، كما باركت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم، في العالمين إنك حميد مجيد “O Allah confer blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad as You conferred blessings upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Honourable. O Allah, and continue to bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim.
