Seeking a remedy to our problems through the law when large - TopicsExpress

Seeking a remedy to our problems through the law when large corporations are involved is futile. The New Brunswick Oil and Natural Gas Act was violated by SWN in their seismic testing of Mikmaw territory around the time the Mikmaw Warriors Society and settlers were resisting invasive SURVEY WORK on the ground. During this surveying an aquifer was punctured and permitted to flow out into the forest without any consequences to SWN or restoration (the aquifer was still flowing at least a month after being punctured). There are parallels to the situation on Burnaby Mountain. The Quadra Sands Aquifer is known to be in this area. Kinder Morgan want to drill over 300 meters down into the mountain at borehole 1. In addition to the other dangers associated with drilling deeply into the earth, there is a very real threat of puncturing the Quadra Sands Aquifer as its exact whereabouts are understood to be unknown. Relying on the laws seems to be futile when the laws are profit driven and changed at industrys whim. We cant solely rely on these law makers to protect conservation areas. Look at what SWN have already gotten away with in so-called Kent County, New Brunswick. Look at what Kinder Morgan have already gotten away with in Coast Salish Territory. halifax.mediacoop.ca/video/there-monitor-new-brunswick-one-month-later-aquife/20481
