Seems to be always some fun and reality between Deck and Engine: Captain versus the Chief Engineer. Who is the most important? I am a retired CE but today I would like to pay tribute to many Captains out there. Read a comment I shared with my many non sailor friends today: For 29 years of my life I have crossed nearly every ocean, and seas and it was all good, but being in the middle of nowhere and heading in to severe bad weather, yes, your mind and your dedication has to be with no fumbles, because if you are afraid and it sets in to you, your other 20+ crew members ( on a cargo ship) is at peril. I have been blessed to sail on board vessels with very experienced Captains, being a Chief Engineer like myself on board, you just hope he know how to read weather reports. And 41 years ago when I went to sea, we did not have satellite reports every minute like today. So I do credit Old Sea Captains for bringing us home safe.
