Sen Tillman made the unfortunate comment that the best and brightest never get into our classrooms as they are lured out of state by higher salaries elsewhere… Public Member Mr Barnsback said he takes exception to that remark and every teacher he knows is a good one. teachers are not asking for a raise, simply asking that they be made whole from their past losses due to salary freezes. Sen.Tillman believes he was misunderstood (altho I do not think he was) and that we have too many leaving the state right after college graduations. Another public member, Mr. Nixon, The money has to come from somewhere, and teachers have contributed to this state by the money they lost to salary freezes. We need to put teachers back where they would be had these freezes not occurred as they have essentially been a tax on teachers. btw, all my notes are paraphrased, so dont take them as exact quotes unless I put them in
