Senator Warren has made it pretty clear that any draft movement notwithstanding, she wont run for President in 2016. Someone asked me why. The eight likely reasons I could come up with off the top of my head are below. I dont know how many of them are actually Senator Warrens reasons. In any case, a primary run from the economic left would be useful, I think, bringing into the campaign media narrative issues that the Democrats should work on and can win on, if handled well. We need to give working class people who dont see themselves as poor good reason to support Democrats. I hope Bernie Sanders does run and can play the role effectively. ----------------------- She may not be up for the 24x7 grind of a national campaign. She may feel that such a campaign would damage her standing in Massachusetts, making her seat a possible GOP pickup in the future. She may feel that a poor showing now would make it harder for her to run a strong campaign in the future, even if changes to the national political atmosphere would otherwise make a future run viable. She may fear she would be an ineffective champion for her beliefs, when everything is filtered through the national campaign media. She may fear she could actually win the nomination and get clobbered in the general election. Her positions on foreign policy, cultural issues, and even government spending priorities may not be something she wants to put a stake in the ground about, feeling that her supporters on her core macroeconomic issues are not all united on the other issues and therefore her support and effectiveness on her core issues would be diminished should she alienate those one one side or another of an issue she doesnt now highlight. She may have people close to her who have personal secrets that would be revealed in the spotlight of a campaign. She may just not like the job description of President.
