Senator’s Multi-billion Naira Park To Be Demolished For Being A Member of The New PDP GOING by the threat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the lingering crises rocking the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) would Saturday claim another casualty. A-Class Events Management Services, owners of a multi-billion Naira A-Class Recreation Park in Maitama area of Abuja, belonging to Senator Aisha Al-Hassan, Taraba North, was on Thursday, given final notice for demolition within 48 hours. In the notice given to the company, the FCTA said the property, which is situated on the transit way corridor of Maitaima A06 District, had to give way for the Abuja Light Rail under construction, as it would hinder successful completion of the project. However, addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, Senator Al-Hassan alleged that she was being victimised for decamping to the other divide of PDP. According to her, she had not in any way breached the agreement reached with FCTA on the 3.0 hectares of land used for the park, alleging that she was rather being witch-haunted by “the over zealous PDP leadership.” She also stated that the Parks and Recreation Department of the FCTA granted the company approval to operate the park on February 8, 2010, with No. 102 A00, designated as a park in the Abuja Master Plan and allocated to A-Class Events Management Services Limited. Documents tendered by the lawmaker also indicated that the company was to operate the park for five years in the first instance after which the terms of agreement would be reviewed “after satisfactory performance.” The lawmaker said she never received any communication from FCTA since 2011 until September 26, this year, when it gave a two-week notice to the company to vacate the park and on Thursday October 24, when it issued them the final notice. Al-Hassan said: “If because of grievances that I have against my party, the PDP, especially its leadership at my state level, I decided to belong to the Baraje divide of the party, I see no reason I or any member of the divide should be witch-hunted or persecuted and many other Nigerians punished. “Has development of the Maitama Transit Way commenced? The answer is no. The Maitama Transit Way will only be developed and linked to the Light Rail Lines when completed and everybody knows as a fact that the light rail line project that will go round the FCT with linkages to many transit ways within the city is not any where near completion. “If A-Class Park and Events Centre is demolished with others on the transit ways as alleged by the FCTA, what will FCTA do with the places since development of the transit ways is not even in contemplation now?” She also alleged that the Park had since shut down and staff sacked, thereby throwing them back into the unemployment market. She, therefore, called on Nigerians to prevail on FCTA not to go ahead with the exercise on behalf of hundreds of youths that were employed by the company who would be relieved of their jobs and sources of livelihood if the park were demolished.
