Sent to Daily Fail, PCC & Lord de M at DEFRA for good measure: For the second time in as many weeks the Daily Mail has published an article on a new breed of designer dog and we are writing to beg you to stop. Every week hundreds of Staffies are being put to sleep because they have simply fallen out of fashion and there are no homes or rescue spaces for them. Promoting any sort of new breed in the manner of your articles is only going to make the rescue situation worse not to mention the health risks involved with cross breeding. These are not designer dogs - they are mongrels. We would refer you to your article on The sickening truth about those cute Christmas puppies for sale on the internet and point out that not all the puppies sold online are brought in from abroad and you dont have to own a shed to be a puppy farmer (see the Pup Aid campaign (pupaid.org/). At a time when everyone in rescue is working flat out to try to stop overbreeding, irresponsible ownership and the sale of puppies online we feel that articles featuring wottie dogs and the cava-poo-chon are far from helpful and would urge you to do some real research into the reality facing rescues throughout the country today.
