Sept 11, 2001 will always be a day we all remember. A day of reflection for those who lost their lives, for their families forever changed, and for those who work hard everyday to keep us safe. But in thinking about this a lot today, one good thing Ill take from that experience is the overwhelming feeling of patriotism and togetherness we all felt. There was no you or I, black or white, male or female... We were all just Americans. Americans from all walks of life that just wanted to help. Ill never forget going into the city with my dad, 2 days after (Thur) - he had special driving privileges as part of his job with his hospital, we could go up a special emergency car lane through the tunnel. Driving past the traffic - cars with license plates from every state; workers from Kansas, Arkansas, and Montana in their pickup trucks who probably decided to start driving towards NY hours after the terror attacks, just to help - they all were sitting in bumper to bumper of traffic just to help. It was truly a horrific time, but a time that brought the best out in this country and in its people. It was a time that solidified for me, what it meant to be an American.
