September 11th Remembered – A Reality Check by John Safin written September 10, 2002 There has been a lot of talk concerning what should or should not have news coverage on the memorial days of September 11, 2001. The event of that day affected every American citizen and each will reflect in his or her own way. Since people remember what they see more than what they hear, I ask you to think of the pictures and videos from September 11, 2001 (since the television news organizations believe the images are too harsh to broadcast ever again). I wish to share with you what I remember and what we should never forget… …The jet planes crashing into the Twin Towers, Pentagon and the remains of Flight 93; …The flag waving citizens of the United States of America proving you shouldn’t mess with the U.S.; …All the Arabs and Muslims, in other countries and here in the United States, CHEERING over the attacks; …The carnage and devastation from the attacks on September 11th; …The efforts of everyday people who did more than their best to sort through the wreckage never losing hope for finding survivors; …The video Bill Maher, of ABC Network’s “Politically Incorrect”, stating the terrorists have “more real courage" than United States Military personnel; …The workers at the World Trade Center with a positive attitude for finding survivors that you can feel their energy when President Bush came to speak with them and the spirit felt from their chant of “U-S-A! U-S-A!”; …The statements by Tom Brokaw (NBC), Peter Jennings (ABC) and Dan Rather (CBS) on their REFUSAL to wear a United States flag lapel pin – they didn’t want to offend anyone; …The charge you felt when Baseball and Football stadiums unveiled gigantic USA flags and the energy level of everyone when singing the National Anthem; …The statements and promises made by Louis Farrakhan on his visit with Saddam Hussein as he wished "All Muslims good fortune against the enemy"; …The country united in prayer, joined by pundits and spirit-dampeners that would have us believe there is no god; It would be nice if there were video of Muslims in the United States publicly denouncing the attacks, but they never spoke up and it’s obvious their loyalties lie elsewhere. I want every citizen of the United States to remember the amount of fear, sorrow, and rage they had in their heart on September 11, 2001. Our enemies will continue to target civilians as well as our military. It is time to defend this country, its core values, its borders, language (English) and culture before our enemies do us more harm. I want every citizen, wherever you are, to take one minute from his or her life on September 11th each year at noon. During that short minute remember the victims, their families and friends, the people who charged to their rescue, and the people who had to sift through the rubble, clean up and repair the aftermath and what they had to go through. The time for showing weakness is over - The time for holding back is over!! It is time for the United States to wake up and smell the carnage. The time for showing compassion to those who would do us harm is over. Freedom isn’t free and it’s time we start remembering that fact.
