September 14, 2001-November, 2001...Assigned to Fresh Kills Landfill, Staten Island. What started as a handful of cops and a box full of shovels and rakes turned in to the biggest recovery effort ever seen by this City. That mountain of garbage turned in to a mini city occupied by thousands of cops, firefighters, medical personnel and US Military from all over the country and in the process, turned in to the largest shrine to thousands who perished that day. Next time youre driving through Staten Island and you see that grass covered mountain, take a second to reflect upon what took place there and who still remains. Rest in Peace to every single one of them...
