September 3, 1904 born to the LeValleys of Toledo, Ohio, a son, Louis Orville. He was one of 9 siblings. He supposedly had a 3rd grade education and didnt spell well but was an accomplished machinist and could do anything with his hands. He served in the Navy. Having no kids of his own (mom was his step-daughter) he grand-fathered 5 kids. He was also the dad I never had and put up with the usual stuff from all of us. I remember many Sunday afternoons getting an ice cream cone at the restaurant at Rt 310 and Broad St., and then going rock throwing somewhere north of Pataskala at a stream. After retirement he had a business at his house selling lawn tractors, mowers, chain saws and servicing them. Of course the demo tractors were our toys and we rode them all over the property, which was at York Rd and the railroad tracks. Uncountable times I (we) would run one out of gas or stall it out or get stuck in the mud and run to get his assistance. He would get up from his throne in the living room and come help us without complaining. There are too many other great memories to write up in this post but I often think of all the changes in the world that he and Gramma and their generation witnessed during their lifetimes such as the development of the automobile from the Ford Model T to the Ford Blazer, the Wright Flyer to the Boeing 747, rural electrification, refrigeration, TV, radio, etc. This is the man that we all called Hiya (the origin of the name escapes me). Happy 110th birthday!
