September 4th - hard to believe that 20 years have passed by since my dad passed away. It will always feel like it was just a few years ago. I guess thats as good as itll ever get: a 20 year old fresh wound. He predicted so much of the technology that we have today, and was, himself, in terms of technology and gadgets, an early adopter. (He also predicted every single play that any baseball pitcher or batter was going to do next in a game - EVERY PLAY.) Watching Blade Runner and Star Trek with him was like watching an infomercial for things that you will be able to own. It was like the space age was commonplace to him, and yet, if you asked him how he would prefer to live, he would have told you that all he needs is a tent, some batteries for his radio (so he could listen to Mets games, of course), a rifle & ammo and a flannel shirt (Im assuming to wear, but I guess he would also use it to clean his gun)... totally OFF-THE-GRID (a lifestyle, I imagine, he would have tried to achieve, if only my mother would have let him). Here are some of my dads most often heard expressions: You know, they have computers for that, and You know, one day computers will be able to do that, and Soon, that computer will fit in your pocket, and to my mother Stop riding my ass, and to other boaters who were running over our anchor line and who had no business operating watercrafts Hey, Captain Asshole!
