Serious question: I dont understand the ownership of amateur news photos...recently a friend used four photos to create an original college He took them from my Facebook page. One was taken by me and one was a photo of me friend had posted. Two were by a friend who had posted over 60 iPhone snapshots. That friend is credit once at the beginning for her snapshots of the environmental march. Now she wants individual credit any time zone redistributes her snap. I know that two of the images in my friends collage ( an original work from material found on the internet including snaps by me, a friend both of us posted anonymously, and two snaps from many posted by another who aggressively wants each snap credited. I had suggested to my friend that if every snap she posts she wants credit for she should use creative commons signage so people will know. But she chooses not too. Me I freely give of any snap I share on FB I make a distinction between all of us who use our digital phones like my friend and I do to document an event and those artists like John Masterson or Trixie Rosen or Lisa Stein, or Alice OMalley etc. Who are artists who use their trained eye and tools of the trade in selection and perfecting of an image. I remember at occupy the significance of documentation for political and arrest reasons.,and we all did it...but now the idea of proprietary declarations of ownership of documentation snapshots reminds me too much of the clicker vultures called paparazzi....any thoughts?...please note ...this is a theoretical question and not a personal rebuke.
