Sermon: Favour Scripture: Ruth.2:6 (NKJV) 6 So the servant who was in charge of the reapers answered and said, “It is the young Moabite woman who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab. ……………………………………………………………………. This portion of scripture carries a story centered on Naomi, Ruth, Boaz among others. Naomi was married to Alimek and they were living in Bethany. They relocated to Moab with their two sons where they settled and their sons later married from there. Alimeck passed on followed by his sons ten years later. The sons died without children and left Opah and Ruth widowed. Naomi got news that there was a bumper harvest in Bethany and she decided to go back, her daughters-in-law opted to go with her. She declined and advised them to stay behind and re-marry, they insisted on going with her until she told them she could not bear any more sons for them to marry. After hearing this Naomi backed down and chose to stay behind but Ruth still insisted and went with her. The first lesson we derive from this story is that there are people who are in your life who claim to be your friends when in actual fact they are friends with your assets. They are only with you because of what you have not because they like you. They only relate to you because they want your money and the relationship is sustained by the availability of money in your life. There are many people who possess the same spirit as Opah who are after your money but God is going to reveal such people to you so that you can rid yourself of these parasites. A true friend sticks around through the good and bad times they do not waver, you need to put your friends to the test and check their genuineness. Friendship should reciprocate, you should benefit whilst your friend benefits as well. Let the anointing of today help you locate your friends. You might have assisted people in the past and they seem like they have forgotten about you but not after today. They shall remember you in the name of Jesus Christ. The second lesson from this story is on marriage. When you marry it is not only about you but you marry one’s family as well. You should be wise enough to marry someone your family appreciates. Most of the divorces today are due to sour relationships with in laws particularly the mother-in-law. You should make your family love the one you love in order to gain their full support in the event of a problem. You should propose for marriage only after you are sure your family loves the one you love. Love is not the only reason why should marry because love emanates from varied things. Love can emanate from sympathy but when the situation changes the love goes with the change. It could also emanate from feelings or beauty but what happens the day that beauty fades away or the feelings die down. It is also very important to understand your boyfriend’s or girlfriend’s background before you commit, establish whether or not they can cope with your background and vice-versa. You should also seek parental guidance before marrying because they are more mature than you are and bear a lot of experience on such matters. Everyone is good in their own respect but they might not be good for you but for someone else. Many people are in marriage today as a contract or simply for their children not because of love. Some are in marriage in an effort to protect their reputation and not to be labeled a divorcee. During a certain couples meeting here, the couples present were asked a simple question on whether or not they would chose the same partner given an option to re-marry. The results were shocking as only one couple agreed to marrying the same partner. The reason why you will not agree is because you married the wrong person. You spend the larger chunk of your life married than when you are single hence you cannot afford to make a mistake. You cannot continue together if you are not in agreement, the problem is, you married the wrong person and you need the grace of God to solve the problem. The other problem is that women rush to disclose their problems to the public, not all problems require intervention from the public. You should learn to settle issues with wisdom, do not rush because you will make permanent blunders. When Naomi went back with Ruth she changed her name to Mara because of her sorrow. She did not know that Ruth had favour upon her life, that was going to change her life for the better. Your family is blessed because of you. Laban’s wealth was increased because of Jacob’s existence in his household. Jacob had God’s favour upon his life, the same favour will be upon your life after today. Favour is the only form of anointing that separates, you need to be separated. Favour is coming to your house. I speak favour upon your life. Your life shall be transformed because of today’s anointing. The past is over and the dark moments are over to the glory of God.
