Service Trip, Day 4: of the build and the playground is complete! Today’s work included painting, final details on our educational tools and games, and finishing the tower which featured a climbing rope, tire swing, ladder and slide. The best part of working with the parents and community of Salcaja was watching their love and dedication to the kids of Las Flores through their extremely hard work on the playground build. Each day of work, we saw more and more people wanting to be involved. By today, all the local women were painting the playground in their native dress and even some heels! At the end of the day, FUNDAP had a ceremony to officially present the new playground to the community. Their gratitude was overwhelming, knowing that something as simple as this can make such a difference in both the parents and children’s lives was definitely worth the week of sweat and sore arms.
