Service on the Blue Line is operating normally, following an earlier disruption from debris that affected service through the morning and early afternoon. Contractors working overnight, on the IDOT Circle Interchange Project, were pouring approximately 100 cubic yards of concrete (about 10 truckloads) for a bridge pier when a temporary wooden form gave way. Wet concrete and other material collapsed onto our right-of-way, just east of the Blue Lines UIC-Halsted station. CTA personnel rushed to the scene and worked as quickly as possible to assess the situation and work toward restoration of service. While work was performed, trains in both directions shared a single track from LaSalle thru UIC-Halsted, resulting in major delays and limited capacity. To provide some additional capacity along the busiest parts of the route, some trains operated between OHare and LaSalle, only. Crews worked vigorously through the morning and early afternoon to clear the debris and prepare the affected track for service—Blue Line trains resumed operation over both tracks and normal service began to resume around 1pm. We extend our apologies for the inconvenience this outside construction incident caused our Blue Line riders, particularly through the morning rush, and appreciate your patience and understanding.
