Setting your thoughts aside as to whether or not you like Springsteen.... and just focusing on the fact that he wanted to paint a picture ... with a song and convey a specific feeling within someone else that you dont know and you cant feel unless your in the other mans shoes... I think he did a tremendous job here. Most musicians would most-likely turn their noses up at the simplicity of the melody, its repetitiveness and the overall utter simplicity of the music. Beneath them. But, I give him credit for its simplicity, it is the comprehending... and ability to feel the pain of others that are the intricacies of this song. If you tried writing a song that accomplished what he set out to accomplish here, I bet youd find it extremely difficult. Try getting all this across with two chords and your lyrics. I think 85% of the people that have heard this song think its pro-American when in reality, its nearly the opposite....................................................................................................................................................
