Seven Sigma or what? This evening as I was driving, my attention was diverted by the sound of a steady beat of drums and a small gathering in a street corner. The centre of attention was a small girl aged about 10 years doing the tight-rope walk on a piece of rope stretched across two bamboo poles erected for the purpose. No safety harness, no safety net, nothing whatsoever to protect the child in case she slipped and lost her balance. I shuddered at the very thought of it and prayed silently for the safety of the child. One reads articles written by experts on the amount of concentration required of a surgeon performing an intricate surgery or a pilot doing a precision approach in bad weather. But I realised that all this pales in comparison to the intense concentration of that child whose very life depended on her ability to concentrate and do her ‘job’ with absolutely no margin for error. What do you call this, Seven Sigma??????
