Several months ago I bought Zona a dog bed at TJMaxx for 50 bucks. It was a burnt orange chevron design and super thick and luxuriously soft. I wanted it to smell like Downy so I stopped to wash it at a laundromat and dry it in a big dryer. I decided to run some errands while it was drying and forgot it entirely until about 10pm, at which time I went back to see if it was still there. Nope. Dryer open. Empty. Dog bed history. I was bummed but decided whomever took it must have a dog who needed it more than mine does. This slushy and cold Wednesday morning months later, on my way to work, I see a pale,skinny girl about my Roxys age with chemically red hair and enough eyeliner she must have thought might mask her lost eyes, curled up below the underpass near my entrance to the freeway, close to that laundromat. Under her was a clear plastic bag wrapped dog bed of orange chevrons. Zona has a fireplace, food , lots of hugs. I pray that young girl is half as blessed as the dog whose bed she is sleeping on. Im unsettled.
